Sofia Cherneva is the creator behind the Scandles brand. Today, she will tell us how it all began and about her inexhaustible abundance of ideas and new challenges.

I always wanted to create something of my own to offer people. I wanted the products I created to be of impeccable quality, with a personal style, and the best on the market. I observed various businesses, conducted personal research, until I stumbled upon a TikTok video with surprise candles – ones you light, and as they burn, a jewelry gift wrapped in foil appears. That's how the idea and desire to get involved with scented candles came about.
It wasn't an easy path, and for almost a year, I conducted research and tests, trying different methods and ingredients to create scented candles of the highest quality. I must admit that until then, I had never dealt with making such a product, and it was a real challenge for me to take on. The candles contain entirely natural ingredients – natural and biodegradable wax, which has several advantages – it does not cause allergies, and does not emit toxins, carcinogens, or pollutants. They smoke 90% less compared to paraffin candles and do not increase the level of carbon dioxide in the room. Traditional candles are usually made from paraffin waxes, which are a petroleum product. And petroleum is a non-renewable source that contains carcinogenic substances, harmful to our health and the environment. Natural waxes are natural and harmless to our health. Due to its low burning temperature, natural wax lasts over 50% longer than paraffin wax, and in the long run, this makes the candles much more economical and cost-effective. If the candle accidentally spills, it can be cleaned extremely easily, and from a safety perspective, the chance of burning when spilled with wax is extremely small.
Another natural product we use is high-quality wooden wicks, the only patented ones in the world. They release much less smoke when burning compared to cotton wicks. Also, the wicks have a crackling effect, which creates a cozy atmosphere and the feeling of a real burning wood fire.
The fragrances we use are from a leading American company focused on environmental protection and creating the highest quality scents. The oils are 100% phthalate-free. The company does not use any materials included in global lists of materials causing health problems. The oils do not contain carcinogens, mutagens, reproductive toxins, organic toxins, or acute toxins.
The jars into which we pour the wax to make the individual candles are glass in 5 different colors – white, black, blue, pink, yellow, and are specially made for the brand with no equivalent. They can be reused due to the fact that soy wax is biodegradable, which allows for easy washing of the jar.

We have created 3 main categories of candles. Scandles Scented Candle is a series of scented candles, available in 160g and 210g packages. We offer a variety of scents – both seasonal and classic throughout the year. Scandles Sample Candle are 40-gram scented candles created to help and facilitate the consumer's choice if they are wondering which scent to choose from the Scandles Scented Candle series. Scandles Surprise Candle is something more unique for the Bulgarian market. It is currently a very popular product in the States, and indeed very few brands offer such a product in Bulgaria. The idea is that in every lit candle, the consumer will find a surprise gift – jewelry made of precious metal or medical steel – a bracelet, ring, earrings, or necklace.

I believe this is still a new niche where we will gradually introduce customers to the product, its value, and benefits. People love pleasant surprises; the effect of the mysterious and enigmatic is strong. I am glad that we are among the pioneers in Bulgaria offering such a product. And I think it will have widespread use and development.
